Our liturgy

Eucharistic Minister

Hosts Eucharistic Ministers are parishioners invited by the Parish Priest to undertake this ministry. A course of training is followed, usually each autumn, prior to commissioning by the Bishop. Their duties are to help with the distribution of Communion at Mass and to take Communion to the sick or housebound when needed.

Welcomers

Welcome mat Our teams of welcomers are standing by at each Sunday mass, to welcome you to our church. With hymnbook and service sheet in hand, they will answer any questions you might have, especially if you are visiting us for the first time.

If you would like to help out, no matter what age you are, please contact the parish office.

Altar servers

St Stephen's medal

Servers have the important role of ensuring the smooth running of the celebration of the Eucharist. Boys and girls who have made their First Communion are eligible to become servers. Servers must attend Mass regularly, and it is helpful if it is one particular Mass, in order to establish teams who know one another and co-operate well.

Experienced servers take on positions of responsibility and may be called upon to serve at extra Masses, baptisms, weddings and funerals. Each server contributes to the celebrations in their own way and is always valued by priest and congregation.

Readers

Bible on lectern
One of the most important functions that lay people can perform in the liturgy is that of Reader. There are many people who have committed themselves to read on a regular rota basis at weekday and Sunday Masses, and on other special occasions. Parishioners who are willing to join a team are very welcome. Training and practice sessions are available, if needed.

Music

Piano keys

At St Boniface, we are lucky to have so many committed musicians. The musicians and singers provide music at the 10.30am Sunday Mass. Repertoire includes psalms and mass settings as well as hymns and more modern pieces. For Christmas and Easter, they are augmented by extra volunteers to help lead the worship at these special times. If you enjoy singing or playing and can read basic music, then why not join?
