Intercessions 23 April 2017

INTERCESSIONS. SECOND SUNDAY of EASTERTIDE [A]. April 23rd. 2017.

Priest: Let us pray for the Church and the world through Jesus Christ, who calls blessed those who believe beyond what the eye can see.

Reader: For the Church in this Easter season, that Christians may be alert to the wounds of Christ in the world, and may seek to heal them, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, hear us: Lord, graciously hear us.

For our nation in the face of a General Election, and for the people of F rance as they prepare to elect their president, that the Holy Spirit whom Jesus breathes may be a guide to wise and considered decisions, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, hear us: Lord, graciously hear us.

For the political leaders of the nations, that as so many suffer from violence, terrorism and malnutrition, they may not limit themselves to empty threatening gestures, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, hear us: Lord, graciously hear us.

For our candidates for Confirmation and First Holy Communion, that they may truly see Jesus as a living force in their lives, strengthening them through his sacraments, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, hear us: Lord, graciously hear us.

May our mother Mary pray for us and especially for those who cannot experience Easter joy:

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia,
For he whom you were worthy to bear, alleluia.
Has risen, as he said, alleluia;
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia,
For the Lord is risen indeed, alleluia.

Let us now pray in silence for our own intentions [silence]:

Priest: Heavenly Father, through your Holy Spirit give us greater confidence in the power of your risen Son and thus in the power of the prayers which we make to you in his name, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
