Intercessions December 3, 2017

INTERCESSIONS. FIRST SUNDAY of ADVENT [A]. December 3rd., 2017.

Priest: At the start of this new Church year, let us pray for the Church and the world through Jesus Christ, our Beginning and our End.

Reader: For the Church, that as Christians we may show in all our words and all our works that our hope is in Christ, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For the newly-born, that they may experience the world as a place where love and trust abound, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those entering a new phase of their lives, through marriage, through adult baptism, through a new job, that they may be blessed with a sense of lasting enrichment, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For countries longing for a new beginning, for peace in Syria, and for a constructive reform for the people of Zimbabwe, that what has been so long hoped for may finally be achieved, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

May Mary pray for us and especially for the people of Burma and of Bangladesh following the Holy Father’s recent visit:

ALMA REDEMPTORIS MATER
[“Loving Mother of the Redeemer”, Antiphon to Our Lady appointed for Advent to Candlemas]
Mother of Christ, hear thou thy people’s cry;
star of the deep, and portal of the sky.
Mother of him who thee from nothing made,
sinking we strive, and call to thee for aid.
O by that joy which Gabriel brought to thee,
thou Virgin first and last, let us thy mercy see.

Let us now pray in silence for our own intentions [silence]:

Priest: Father, may your Holy Spirit help us as we pray, that we may not expect to live on what is sensational, but through the gradual and subtle working of the Spirit in our lives; this we ask through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord , Amen.
