Intercessions January 7, 2018

INTERCESSIONS. Solemnity of the EPIPHANY of the LORD January 7th., 2018.

Priest: Let us pray for the Church and the world through Jesus Christ, the Morning Star, who guides us by his light to the new way which is himself.

Reader: For the Church, that we may pay homage to God, the source of all our blessings, and not seek to journey independent of him, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who manage our economy, that they may have an eye to the poor, and not be lured by the gold of unjust gain, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For Christians who know persecution in the world today, that they may receive the incense of their personal dignity and freedom, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who mourn for the dead, especially those who have died in accidents, disasters and acts of terrorism, that they may be given the myrrh of consolation, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

Let us ask for the help of Mary, who receives in humility the honour paid to her Son:

ALMA REDEMPTORIS MATER
[“Loving Mother of the Redeemer”, Antiphon to Our Lady appointed for Advent to Candlemas]
Mother of Christ, hear thou thy people’s cry;
star of the deep, and portal of the sky.
Mother of him who thee from nothing made,
sinking we strive, and call to thee for aid.
O by that joy which Gabriel brought to thee,
thou Virgin first and last, let us thy mercy see.

Let us now pray in silence for our own intentions [silence]:

Priest: Father, may your Holy Spirit, who served as a Star on the road to Bethlehem, help us as we pray, that we may not be despondent whenever the way is long and arduous, but may anticipate in hope the bright light of our arrival; we ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
