Intercessions September 16, 2018

INTERCESSIONS. 24th. SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME [B]. September 16th., 2018.

Priest: Let us pray for the Church and the world, through Jesus Christ, who presents to us Gospel values which are completely at variance with much of the presumed wisdom of the world.

Reader: For the Church, that Christians in the face of persecution or ridicule may still proclaim confidently: “You are the Christ”, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who offer themselves voluntarily for the service of their fellow human beings, that they may not be deflected by those who remonstrate with them and urge them to seek their own advantage, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For our Government, that they may promote policies which encourage us generously to ‘lose our life’, rather than selfishly ‘save it’, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who suffer grievously from illnesses and pain, especially from terminal illness, that they may be a magnet for loving care, and also be touched by the Holy Spirit to give an example of perseverance, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

May Mary, who knew the roads of exile, pray for us and especially for all those caught up in the dilemmas of exile, asylum seeking and human trafficking:

Hail, Mary …

Let us now pray in silence for our own intentions [silence]:

Priest: Father, may your Holy Spirit help us as we pray, that we may be able to pray not only to gathering blessings for ourselves, but to send them out generously to all your human creation; we ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
