Intercessions December 2, 2018

INTERCESSIONS. FIRST SUNDAY of ADVENT [C]. December 2nd., 2018

Priest: As year gives way to year, let us pray for the Church and the world through Jesus Christ, the Lord of time and eternity.

Reader: For the Church, that Christ may COME this Advent and renew with a spirit of purity and integrity his Church, wounded by the irresponsibility of some of its leaders, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who remember the past, for the bereaved with memories of those they love, for those whose consciences are troubled over past sins, that Christ may COME this Advent and bring his touch of healing, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who are anxious for the present moment, for those who are fearful in the current political confusion in our land, that Christ may COME this Advent and bring a spirit of integrity and broad-mindedness, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

For those who fear the future, especially young people who are tempted to take their own lives, that Christ may COME this Advent and show them that in his eyes every life is filled with value, let us pray to the Lord [pause]:
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.

May Mary pray for us and say to her Son: “Come, Lord Jesus, this Advent, to a people in need”:

ALMA REDEMPTORIS MATER
[“Loving Mother of the Redeemer”, Antiphon to Our Lady appointed for Advent to Candlemas]
Mother of Christ, hear thou thy people’s cry;
star of the deep, and portal of the sky.
Mother of him who thee from nothing made,
sinking we strive, and call to thee for aid.
O by that joy which Gabriel brought to thee,
thou Virgin first and last, let us thy mercy see.

Let us now pray in silence for our own intentions [silence]:

Priest: Father, may your Holy Spirit help us as we make our Advent prayer, that we may know that you are with us even before we seek you, and answer even before we ask; this prayer we make through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
