Chimwemwe (whose name means ‘joy’) is just one of the 1,361,586 children – at the last count – who currently receive Mary’s Meals. He attends Mwalamba Primary School in Malawi, and lives with his mother and three siblings. The family ran out of food stores after a poor harvest last year which allowed them to grow only one bag of maize. “If there was no meal, I would have left school, because I know when I am hungry I cannot listen properly; I cannot learn. I would like to finish my education and become a doctor. I would like to help the people around my village to see a doctor in hospital faster”.
