This is our our 21st annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The nationwide project is organised by the Rotary Club of Southampton and we have sent 10,500 boxes from this parish since 2000. Well done!
If you’re new to the parish, or you would like a reminder, this is what you do:
On Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th of September (or the next weekend)
Take an empty shoebox from the church porch
Fill the box with simple gifts for a poor child. This year we are sending boxes to Moldova, Albania and to children living in poor conditions in the slums of Manila, the Philippines. In the box you will find a leaflet giving suggestions for suitable items
Wrap the box according to the instructions on the leaflet
(the lid must be covered separately) .
THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT AND A CHANGE TO USUAL ARRANGEMENTS
Boxes can only be returned at the beginning of masses on 23rd and 24th October to the hall not the church . A reminder will be given in the newsletter.
Please tape £1.50(ALSO A CHANGE) to the outside of the box to help cover transport costs.
If you cannot fill a shoebox please consider taking an envelope marked “Sponsor a Shoebox” in the porch and making a donation.
Details are inside each envelope.
Please put an elastic band around the box or tie a shoelace etc around to keep box together (no sticky tape please).
Individual items are very welcome and should be handed to welcomers.
These deprived children live in appalling conditions, in wooden shacks or even on the streets. The lucky ones may live in primitive refugee camps under plastic sheeting!
Give a shoebox this Christmas to show them that someone cares.
A gift-filled box can be rewarding to make, but for the child who receives it, it is like a miracle.
Boxes for boys of all ages would be particularly welcome, as they tend to be overlooked!
WE HAVE BEEN ASKED ESPECIALLY TO PUT A HARD PLASTIC CUP IN EACH BOX AS MOST CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE ONE.
THIS YEAR PLEASE PUT IN A TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTHPASTE.
Please try to stick to the deadlines above as late boxes may not reach their destinations in time
Think about this: Each child will only ever receive one of our boxes.
This may be the only present they have ever received or will ever receive.
Thank you very much for all your help.
